BENEFITS / DESCRIPTION:

The Hoof It Farmer Disc is built for the dairy farmer who does their own herd trimming — not the professional contractor, not the absolute beginner. It sits in the practical middle of our range: efficient enough that you can get through a herd round without it taking all weekend, controllable enough that you are not fighting the tool. The carbide blade inserts replace individually, so when blades wear, you swap inserts instead of buying a whole new disc.

The cutting profile is tuned for the kind of work a farmer-trimmer actually does: routine maintenance trimming on a known herd, twice or three times a year, in conditions that are not always ideal (cold mornings, wet sheds, time pressure). Lightweight body construction matters here — by the time you are 30 cows into a session, every gram on the grinder is felt in your wrists and shoulders. The Farmer Disc is one of the lighter options in our range without sacrificing structural integrity.

This disc ships from Mount Compass on the Fleurieu Peninsula. The Farmer is the disc we use most on our own herd — it does what we need, lasts well between insert replacements, and is the right tool for the job we know best. Pair it with a good 100mm angle grinder, a sharp hoof knife, and you have a complete farmer-grade hoof care kit.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

How is the Farmer Disc different from the Intermediate Disc?

The Farmer is tuned for own-herd use across a typical dairy season — balanced, lightweight, easy on the operator. The Intermediate has more aggressive cutting and is closer to a Pro disc in feel. If you trim twice a year for two days at a time, the Farmer is right. If you trim more often or do contracting, look at the Intermediate or Pro.

Will the lightweight body hold up to rough conditions?

Yes — aluminium body construction matches the rest of our disc range. The weight saving comes from machining design, not thinner walls. Operationally, treat all our discs the same: store dry, inspect blades before use, replace damaged inserts immediately.

How many cows can I trim on one set of inserts?

For a typical farmer doing 100–150 cows per year, one set of carbide inserts lasts 18–24 months. Heavier herds with more lameness work shorten that — plan to keep a spare set on hand.

Can I use the Farmer Disc with cordless grinders?

Yes, any 18V or 36V cordless 100mm grinder will run this disc. Battery-powered grinders are increasingly popular for trimming because of the cordless freedom around stalls and yards. Carry spare batteries.

Is the Farmer Disc good for sheep or smaller animals?

It is sized and tuned for adult cattle. Use a smaller dedicated tool for sheep, goats, and calves under six months — the carbide cutting depth is wrong for their thinner horn.
