BENEFITS / DESCRIPTION:

The Silver variant of the Hoof It Intermediate Disc is the classic-look option in our 7-blade carbide disc range. The silver anodised finish has a practical advantage over darker finishes: blade wear, chips, and any damage to the disc body are easier to spot at a glance — useful when you are doing a quick safety check between cows.

Mechanically, this is the same intermediate-level 7-blade carbide disc as our Black, Gold, and Rose Gold variants — same blade configuration, same fit, same replaceable insert system. We offer the colour range so trimmers can keep multiple discs and tell them apart at a glance, and so farmers can pick the look that suits their operation. The 7-blade design strikes the balance between cutting speed and operator control: more aggressive than the Beginner Disc, more forgiving than the Pro 8-blade.

This disc ships from Mount Compass on the Fleurieu Peninsula. The Hoof It range is designed and assembled in Australia by our own dairy farming family — the same discs we use on our herd before we sell them.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Why does Hoofit make the same disc in four colours?

Two reasons. Practical: trimmers often run multiple discs (one for each grinder, or one fresh and one with worn inserts) and the colour helps tell them apart on the workbench. Aesthetic: it lets buyers pick the look they like. The mechanical design is identical across BLK, SIL, GLD, and ROS variants.

Is the silver finish more durable than the coloured variants?

No — all four anodised finishes have the same wear characteristics. Anodising is a chemical process that creates a hard oxide layer on the aluminium; the colour comes from a dye step that does not affect durability. Pick the colour you like, not on the basis of toughness.

How do I know when a blade insert needs replacing?

Look for chips, cracks, or visible flat spots on the cutting edges. Also: if you find yourself pressing harder to get the same cut, or if the disc starts producing fine dust instead of clean shavings, the inserts are dull. Most trimmers replace inserts as a full set rather than one at a time, to keep the cut balanced.

Can I retrofit the inserts from a different brand of disc?

No — the Hoof It insert pattern is specific to our discs. Use only Hoof It replacement inserts to keep the disc balanced and the warranty intact.

What angle grinder do you recommend for this disc?

Any standard 100mm angle grinder with M10 spindle thread, running between 8,500 and 11,000 RPM. Trade-grade grinders from Bosch, Makita, Milwaukee, and Hitachi all work well. Avoid cheap grinders with poor spindle bearings — disc balance suffers.
