BENEFITS / DESCRIPTION:

The Hoof It Intermediate Disc is a 7-blade carbide hoof trimming disc designed for farmers and intermediate trimmers — the operator who is past the learning curve but is not doing 200 cows a day. The replaceable blade insert system is the key feature: when blades dull, you swap individual carbide tips for a fraction of the cost of a new disc. On a typical dairy operation, that is 3–4 times the working life of a fixed-blade disc.

This disc fits any standard 100mm angle grinder and is balanced for control rather than raw aggression — the Hoofit Aggressor or Pro discs are sharper-cutting but require more skill to use safely. The 7-blade configuration sits between our Beginner (entry-level) and Pro (8-blade) discs, making it the right choice if you are regularly trimming your own herd or running a small contracting operation. The black anodised finish handles the moisture and chemical exposure of a working dairy without pitting.

The Hoof It Intermediate Disc ships from Mount Compass on the Fleurieu Peninsula. We design and assemble the Hoof It disc range ourselves — we use the same discs on our own herd and adjust the design based on what works in real working conditions, not what looks good in a catalogue.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

How does the Intermediate Disc compare to the Beginner and Pro versions?

The Beginner Disc is the entry point — slightly less aggressive cutting and easier to control while you learn. The Intermediate (this product) adds a 7th blade and is the right pick once you are trimming with confidence. The Pro 8-blade Disc is for full-time professionals doing high volumes — more aggressive cutting and faster work, but requires solid technique.

How often do the blade inserts need replacing?

It depends on your throughput and how dirty your cows feet are. As a rough guide, a typical farmer trimming 100–150 cows per year will get 18–24 months out of one set of inserts. Professional contractors replace them more often. Inspect blades before each session and replace any that are chipped or visibly worn.

Will this disc fit my angle grinder?

Yes if you have a standard 100mm (4-inch) angle grinder, which is the most common size in Australia. Check the spindle thread (M10 is standard). The disc is balanced for grinders running 8,500–11,000 RPM, which covers virtually all consumer and trade-grade angle grinders.

What is the difference between the colour variants (Black, Silver, Gold, Rose Gold)?

Functionally identical — same 7-blade design, same carbide inserts, same fit. The colour is the anodised finish only. Choose the colour you prefer (or the one that is in stock at the time).

Is this disc safe to use as an absolute beginner?

We recommend the Beginner Disc if it is your first hoof trimming disc — it is slightly more forgiving while you build muscle memory. The Intermediate cuts faster and demands a bit more confidence. If you have done at least 20–30 trims with another disc and feel in control of your grinder, you are ready for the Intermediate.
